Essex North Shore is seeking a full time School Nurse. The School Nurse provides health services to the students of Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School. They provide care to students with chronic health conditions and disabilities. They provide onsite health assessments, emergency care, medication administration, and work with caregivers, faculty, and staff to develop and implement health care plans.

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION: 

This position is classified as Non-Exempt.

 

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

The school nurse reports to the Coordinator of Athletics, Wellness, and Health Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. School Nurse licensure or licensable by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, from an accredited college or university, required.
  3. Must possess a current, valid registered nurse license issued by the Massachusetts Board of Nursing.  
  4. CPR and First Aid certification.
  5. Must be able to function independently, prioritize, have good organization skills and be able to multitask.
  6. Charge nurse or nurse leader experience preferred.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Assess and evaluate student's health history, pertinent family history, and home factors, and counsel students, caregivers, and school personnel about health problems and issues.
  2. Maintain health records, conduct required research, and evaluate school health program.
  3. Notify appropriate individuals of immediate and potential health related problems.
  4. Coordinate health resources of school, home, community, and allied health agencies/hospitals by making necessary arrangements, maintaining records, notifying and counseling students, caregivers and health personnel
  5. Develop Health Care Plans for students with chronic medical conditions and share information with school personnel as needed and allowed.  
  6. Prepare regular written reports for supervisor, MDPH and other relevant agencies
  7. Develop an individual health care plan as needed and coordinate with the other providers and school personnel
  8. Document pertinent information in student records according to the Standards of Practice
  9. Provide emergency care for students and staff on school premises in the event of injury or sudden illness
  10. Medication administration to students with caregiver and physician consent
  11. Perform state mandated screenings in vision, hearing, scoliosis, and other health related activities as deemed appropriate by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Davers Board of Health.
  12. Provide information about health and disease prevention in cooperation with Wellness Program 
  13. Participate in school health related activities as deemed appropriate for the school nurse by the principal or coordinator.
  14. Act as a resource in health education to students and families
  15. Initiate, promote, maintain, and implement programs for the recognition, prevent and control of disease, including giving immunizations. 
  16. Maintain health records and document pertinent information.
  17. Maintain confidentiality of students' medical issues.
  18. Review medical records for mandated physicals and immunization records.  Work with caregivers and medical providers to obtain required documentation.  
  19. Is a member of the Building Crisis Response Team
  20. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Principal and/or Superintendent-Director may assign.

 

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

This work is performed indoors in an office setting. In an emergency, this work may require work outside and outside in inclement weather.  This position requires prolonged sitting and working at a computer, walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs, strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds, strength to lift persons with assistance, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. This position is part of the Hathorne Teachers’ Federation Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  2. This position encompasses the school year plus up to ten (10) days beyond; these additional days must be approved by the Superintendent-Director or designee.
