QUALIFICATIONS:

Director of Special Education

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support and act in accordance with the Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School Mission Statement, Special Education Department goals, objectives and policies, as well as all pertinent state and federal law.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of student needs, including but not limited to: educational, medical, physical, sensory, speech/language, and social /emotional.
  3. Facilitate appropriate social interactions amongst students by prompting, modeling, and reinforcing appropriate social behaviors in the general classroom and small group settings.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of and assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs.
  5. Monitor and document student progress via collection of data and communicate such to the Special Education Liaison.
  6. Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.  Help students master equipment and/or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
  7. Assist in the follow through of behavior plans/interventions and provide reinforcement.
  8. Help students develop and implement organizational systems.
  9. Attend regularly scheduled meetings of the Special Education Department.
  10. Maintain professional demeanor and be positive and respectful with students and staff.
  11. Consult with Special Education Teachers, Team Chairs, and the Director to resolve areas of concern and request direction, instruction, or guidance for new or unfamiliar tasks.
  12. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students’ personal information.
  13. Participate in trainings and workshops, as required.
  14. Proctor students during state assessments, when requested. 
  15. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities not inconsistent with the role, as the Director of Special Education may assign.

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. This is a 184 day school year position.
  2. This position is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees, Council 93, Local 245 and the School District.
