Essex North Shore is looking for school bus drivers to join our transportation department.   AM/PM runs, 4:15 pm late runs, 5:45 pm Drama/Sports run. Extra runs are available: Field trips, Intergration Camps etc.

JOB DESCRIPTION

School Bus Driver

 

A School Bus Driver provides clean, safe and reliable transportation for students to and from school as well as to and from special events such as field trips and athletic contests.  School Bus Drivers are responsible for keeping to a specific route schedule and ensuring passenger safety during transit.

 

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION: 

This position is classified as non-exempt.

 

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

School Bus Drivers report to the Manager of Transportation.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. High school diploma/GED preferred
  2. Class A or B CDL license required
  3. Passenger and school bus endorsement required
  4. Clean driving record
  5. Possess a valid medical card
  6. First Aid Certification
  7. CPR certification preferred
  8. Previous experience as a bus driver preferred
  9. Experience working with children preferred

 

DUTIES:

  1. Be attentive to traffic and weather conditions and ensure passenger safety.
  2. Follow the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops.
  3. Conduct mandatory pre and post trip vehicle inspections.
  4. Report routine maintenance or repairs in writing and submit to the Manager of Transportation
  5. Monitoring and reporting fuel consumption, mileage, and passenger numbers.
  6. Reporting delays, accidents, and emergencies.
  7. Responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.
  8. Inspecting the vehicle thoroughly before and after each trip.
  9. Assisting with the loading and unloading of the bus when required.
  10. Enforce conduct and safety rules on the bus. Report inappropriate student behavior to the Manager of Transportation.  
  11. Maintaining a clean vehicle. 
  12. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Manager of Transportation may assign.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

This work requires prolonged sitting and driving in all types of weather conditions.  School Bus Drivers work without direct supervision and are solely responsible for the safety of their passengers and bus. Bus drivers will be subject to high stress situations. This position will require drivers to supervise and control a wide variety of individuals. There may be some work in the evenings driving students to school related activities. Work is performed both indoors and outside in inclement weather.  Work involves potential exposure to temperature extremes, vibrations, and noise.  Lifting, pushing and pulling equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally heavier is required; Walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching and climbing stairs.

  2. This position is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Council 93, Local 245 and the School District.
